Phil Esposito, a Sault Ste. Marie native, rewrote the NHL record book during his brilliant career with Chicago, Boston and New York. He was the first player to surpass 100 points in a season. He guided Boston to Stanley Cups in 1970 and 1972. He once scored a league record 76 goals in 78 games and captured the Hart Trophy twice, the Art Ross Trophy five times. He scored 717 goals during his 18 year career and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984. Later he was manager (and coach briefly) of the New York Rangers and was the first manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
